Travel with Quilting educators Kaye England and Sew Many Places founder Jim West as they travel to Bali to experience wonders and adventure from the perspective of a quilter. This 10-day quilting adventure takes place from September 11 - 20, 2008.

ITINERARY

Thursday, September 11th

Tonight we will fly from the Los Angeles International Airport to Bali. Our flight leaves very early on Friday morning, approximately 1:00am.

Friday, September 12th

This morning, a breakfast snack will be served on-board the plane before we arrive at the Taipei Airport early in the morning. We will transfer to another gate for our connecting flight onto Bali. A lunch snack will be served on-board the plane. Upon our arrival at the Denpasar Airport, we will collect our luggage, pass through customs and secure our visas. We will then meet our guide and bus driver who will take us to our beautiful deluxe hotel, the MELIA BALI RESORT & SPA. Here we will check into our rooms and settle in. This will be our home for the next eight nights. A special “welcome dinner” will close our day, where we will have an opportunity to meet everyone who is traveling on our tour. B, L, D

Saturday, September 13th

This morning, following a delicious buffet breakfast, we will meet our guide and driver who will take us to the town of DENPASAR for sightseeing and shopping. There will be wonderful opportunities to shop for batik fabrics in many of the shops we visit. Lunch will be on your own. We will return back to our hotel later in the afternoon, where the remainder of the evening is at your leisure. B

Sunday, September 14th

This morning, following breakfast, we will visit the town of TOHPATI where we will visit a Batik Factory. This will be an opportunity to see Batik Weavers and artists and learn more of how Batik fabric is made. There will be time for shopping in the Batik gift shop before we continue our tour and visit the town of BATUAN and the town of MAS, where we will see some of the greatest woodcarvers and artists in the entire world. We will return back to our hotel where the remainder of your evening is at your leisure. B

Monday, September 15th

Following breakfast this morning, Kaye will provide an informative workshop. Later in the morning, we will drive through picturesque landscapes of rice paddies tripping down hillsides, travel through a dense tropical jungle, pass through quiet little villages until we arrive at the Bali Bird Park where we will enjoy lunch and an opportunity to look around the park. We will return back to our hotel later in the day. B, L

Tuesday, September 16th

This morning after a hearty breakfast, we will drive to the town of UBUD, famous for fantastic shopping. Upon our arrival, we will visit the famous Monkey Forest. We will see the lush tropical rain forest and enjoy the spontaneity of the local monkeys who inhabit this area. There will be plenty of time to browse the local craft shops and bargain for anything from paintings to batik fabric. We will spend all morning here and depart in the middle of the afternoon. B

Wednesday, September 17th

Today, following a delicious breakfast, we have an opportunity to just relax and enjoy the day on our own. There will be an optional tour offered to our group which is a visit the Elephant Safari Park in the northern part of the island. Along the way, we’ll pass extraordinary scenery and have some great photograph opportunities. Cost of this optional tour is $68.00 per person. B

Thursday, September 18th

Following breakfast this morning, we will travel to a coffee and clove plantation, where we will learn more about how these products are grown and produced. In the afternoon, we will visit the Batik factory again, only this time we will make batiks ourselves! Master Batik artists will work with us in this hands-on experience. Don’t forget your cameras, it is a day you will remember for a long time! B

Friday, September 19th

Today is our final full day in Bali. Follow breakfast, Kaye will provide the second part of her quilt workshop. The afternoon is free for you to enjoy on your own. Tonight, a special “farewell dinner” awaits complete with Balinese dancers and a great menu. B, D

Saturday, September 20th

Today we will pack our suitcases and begin our journey home. We’ll check in at the Denpasar Airport for our flight to Taipei. We will change planes and continue on until we arrive at the Los Angeles International Airport in the evening. B, L
