Saturday, November 13thA light breakfast and lunch will be served on board the plane before our arrival into NEW DELHI. Upon our arrival, we will collect our luggage, meet our motor coach driver & guide, and proceed to our DELUXE HOTEL, located in the central part of the city. We will check in and relax before enjoying a “welcome dinner” at the hotel. We will have an opportunity to meet quilt legend Jinny Beyer and Sew Many Places founder Jim West for a special introduction to this fascinating destination and Jinny will talk more about the quilt project she planned for everyone to work on during the trip. Sunday, November 14thThis morning, following a delicious breakfast, we will meet our professional tour guide and board our private, luxurious motor coach as we begin a tour of New Delhi, the capital city of India. This extraordinary city has dramatic contrasts of both tradition and modernity, each existing harmoniously side by side. With our PANORAMIC TOUR of the NEW Part of Delhi, we will drive past the Rashtrapati Bhawan, the official residence of the president of India. We will also see the India Gate, the memorial raised in honor of the Indian soldiers martyred during the Afghan war, the Laxminarayan Temple built by the Birlas family, one of India’s leading industrial families, Qutab Minar built by Qutub-ud-din Aibek of the Slave Dynasty, and the recognizable lotus-shaped Baha’i Temple. In the afternoon, we will stop at Connaught Place, Delhi’s most popular shopping district. Here we will have free time to shop at our leisure and have lunch on your own. For those who are interested, in the afternoon we will offer a visit to a CRAFT MUSEUM, which houses up to 20,000 items of folk, tribal arts, crafts and textiles. We will return back to our hotel, where we will enjoy dinner altogether and reminisce about our day. B, D
Monday, November 15thThis morning after we enjoy a wonderful and relaxing breakfast, we will meet our guide once more, for a TOUR of the OLD Part of Delhi. We will enjoy a leisurely walk through the old streets and take in the sights, sounds, smells and flavor of this incredible area. Be sure to have your cameras ready to take unique photographs as we walk from block to block. We will see the incredible Spice Market, the largest in India, and see architecture that inspired Jinny Beyer with her quilts. We will also visit the spectacular Red Fort, with its very high level of art form and ornamental work. This building encapsulates a long period of Indian history and its arts. We will continue our tour until we arrive at Dilli Haat, one of the main shopping areas in the old part, filled with market stalls and unique crafts. The afternoon is free at your leisure to enjoy on your own. Tonight, a very special treat is in store for our group. We will dine at the famous Moti Mahal, a landmark restaurant in Delhi’s culinary history. As we dine on local cuisine, we will feel our spirit come alive, as the combination of music, food and ambiance come together to create a special moment that will make tonight a one-of-a-kind experience. We will return to our hotel later in the evening where the remainder of the night is at your leisure. B, D
Tuesday, November 16thThis morning following breakfast, we will check out of our hotel and begin driving southeast to the medieval city of AGRA, situated on the banks of the River Yamuna. During our drive, Jinny will share some special personal stories of her time in Delhi. We will arrive into the city midday and check into our DELUXE HOTEL. There will be time for lunch on our own before we meet our local guide and board our motor coach once again for a drive to see the magnificent Taj Mahal. This pristine, white marble mausoleum was built by the emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, and is one of the Eight Wonders of the World. We will enjoy a guided tour of the Taj Mahal, and there will be time to take as many photographs as we want before returning back to our hotel for a scrumptious dinner. Wednesday, November 17thToday, following a delicious breakfast, we will check out of our hotel and board our motor coach for a drive to the Agra Fort, one of the most important forts in India and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The special architecture of unique columns, ceramic tile work and gardens will inspire us as quilters, as Jinny will comment on some of the things we will see that inspired her work. From here, we will drive to the city of JAIPUR. On our way, we will stop in FATEHPUR SIKRI, once the old capital of the Moghul Empire. We will meet a local guide who will provide a walking tour of the city and why it is such a unique and important place. The detailed carvings and the way the architecture is designed make this both fascinating and inspiring. We will continue our journey southwest until we arrive at our DELUXE HOTEL, located in the central part of JAIPUR. We will check into our hotel rooms and relax before enjoying a very special dinner together. The remainder of the evening is at your leisure. B, D
Thursday, November 18thThis morning we will enjoy a leisurely breakfast before meeting our local guide and participating in a PANORAMIC TOUR OF JAIPUR. The city of Jaipur is famous for its sandstone buildings, which give the city an almost pink magical glow. On our tour today, we will visit the Sanganar Village where we will get the opportunity to see some traditional wood block printing and dyed fabrics. We will also visit the Amber Palace, one of the finest examples of Rajput architecture in the entire country of India. As a special treat today, we will take a ride on one of the royal elephants, so don’t’ forget your cameras! You’ll need proof you did this for your children and grandchildren! It will be loads of fun to be sure! Amber Road provides a great opportunity for us to shop for hand block prints, local pottery and antiques. It will be a relaxing and certainly entertaining afternoon. We will return to our hotel later in the afternoon and enjoy dinner together this evening. B, D
Friday, November 19thThis morning following a hearty early breakfast, we will check out of our hotel and board our motor coach for a drive to the beautiful little town of PUSHKAR. During our ride, Jinny will check on the sewing progress and share some fun stories about her life in India. Besides the Taj Mahal, the Pushkar Camel Fair is one of the most popular attractions in India. Once a year, the color spectacle and carnivals come together with animals, farmers, traders and villagers from all over Rajasthan to celebrate this religious event. As a very special, unique experience, we will spend the night in a luxury encampment called, Camp Bliss. These luxury tents are set among peaceful gooseberry orchards, located just outside the main town. Besides the fascinating attractions we will see at the Camel Fair, we will also enjoy a great evening meal, complete with local traditional entertainment and dance, making it a truly memorable night. And as a special treat, our entire group will be pampered with a relaxing foot massage to complete our day! Without doubt, a truly memorable experience to last a lifetime! B, D
Saturday, November 20thThis morning following breakfast, we will have most of the morning to enjoy the fair. We will leave our luxury tented campsite midday, and board our motor coach traveling to the city of UDAIPUR, which is known as the “Venice of the East,” and described as one of the most romantic cities in India. Situated in the middle of the Aravalli-Mountains, Udaipur offers a fantastic landscape and unrivaled views of the surrounding areas. Upon our arrival into the city, we will enjoy a PANORAMIC TOUR of the city before checking into our DELUXE HOTEL. There will be time to relax and enjoy lunch on our own. In the afternoon, we will board our motor coach to see Lake Palace, set in the middle of the picturesque Pichola Lake, one the most enchanting attractions in Udaipur. Here we enjoy a boat cruise on the shimmering blue waters of Lake Pichola, as we marvel at the breathtaking views and scenery. We will return to our hotel in the later afternoon and relax before dinner. Tonight, Jim will host a fun “Jinny Beyer” trivia quiz, based on our experience and information we have learned so far. Sunday, November 21stToday, following breakfast, we will check out of our hotel and drive south to the city of AHMEDABAD. Our journey will take us through rugged landscapes, as we enjoy the sights of central India. During this 4-hour drive, we will stop a few times before reaching the city. Jinny will give advice and check the progress of the quilting project during part of time on the motor coach. Upon our arrival into the city, we will meet a local guide who will board our motor coach and provide an informative PANORAMIC TOUR OF AHMEDABAD, which includes visiting the Calico Museum, one of the finest textile museums in the world. This museum houses a magnificent collection of rare textiles dating back to the 17th century. There is also an extensive reference library here on textiles for us to visit during our visit. Following this, we will travel to the Gandhi Aashram at Sabarmati, once the home of Mahatma Gandhi. Here we will learn more about the life of Gandhi and also have an opportunity to visit some of the buildings on the site. Following this tour, we will drive to our DELUXE HOTEL, check into our rooms, and relax before dinner. The remainder of the night is at your leisure. B, D
Monday, November 22ndToday is truly a day of leisure, and opportunity to wind down from this incredible expedition and journey. This morning following breakfast, Jinny will provide a lecture that will sew all the pieces of our India Expedition together. There will be time for photographs and one final opportunity to learn from one of the greatest legends in our industry. This afternoon, there will be plenty of time for you to enjoy the city on your own, exploring many of the shops and museums that offer quilters and textile artists a more in depth look at the Indian culture. For those who are interested, we will provide a ride to the Law Garden, one of the centrally located shopping areas providing local goods, handicrafts and last minute souvenirs. Tonight, a very special “farewell dinner” will be served at our hotel. Both Jim and Jinny will provide some parting words and offer some special information about Sew Many Places future trips. B, D
Tuesday, November 23rdThis morning, following breakfast, we will check out of our hotel and drive to the Ahmedabad International Airport for our flight back to the UNITED STATES. We will be changing planes in New Delhi, as there are no nonstop flights from this airport to the United States. Both lunch and snacks will be served onboard the airplane. We will arrive back in the U.S. in the early evening today. B, L, D
